Deisohexanizer, Important Equipment to Produce Gasoline Products Successfully Installed

Balikpapan, July 2022 - PT Kilang Pertamina Balikpapan (KPB)'s commitment to optimizing the performance of the Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) Project is carried out by achieving an important milestone, namely by starting to install Deisohexanizer Equipment with the C-082-17 series. This tool is an important part of the /somerization unit which functions to reuse or recover /so Hexane and Pentane products into /somerate products which will later be used as a mixture of gasoline products and increase the profitability of the Pertamina Balikpapan Refinery. The unit produced by GS-Entec Korea which is expected to be operational in 2024 is designed to separate the Low Octane Component so that an isomerate product is produced with a minimum of RON 88 while ensuring that the gasoline blend product produced complies with specifications.

The Main Director of PT Kilang Pertamina Balikpapan, Feri Yani explained that the Isomerization unit has a crucial function, both in increasing refinery profitability and supporting energy security, "it can increase the margin of Pertamina's refinery in Balikpapan with high value production including Gasoline, LPG and "Propylene. The resulting Gasoline product will meet EURO V specifications and have an octane value (RON) of 92," explained Feri.

Apart from that, another priority of the Balikpapan RDMP Project is reducing or eliminating the import of HOMC (High Octane Oil and Gas Component) as a Gasoline blending component. The function / somerization has been implemented at Pertamina refineries, including at PT KPI Refinery Unit VI Balongan.

Furthermore, Feri stated that as of July 28, 2022, the overall percentage of development progress for the Balikpapan RDMP had reached 52.37%. The stages that have been carried out are multi-disciplinary work, starting from Piling, Foundation, Steel Structure, Mechanical Installation, Piping Installation, and E&L Installation work. PT KPB's efforts to oversee the construction of the RFCC unit cannot be separated from its mission to complete the Balikpapan RDMP. The Balikpapan RDMP has three objectives, namely increasing the refinery's production capacity from 260 thousand barrels/day to 360 it/arrel/day, increasing the complexity of the refinery, and increasing the quality of production to be equivalent to EURO V.

In addition to carrying out the project on-track, PTP B also continues to apply HSSE principles in the work on the Balikpapan RDMP. HSSE principles are implemented by PT KPB in all lines of operations. PT KPB's spirit in overseeing the Balikpapan RDMP project is not only profit-oriented, but is a form of integrity in ensuring resilience, independence and energy sovereignty in Indonesia.
