RDMP Balikpapan & Lawe-Lawe is part of the largest Pertamina Group project managed by PT Kilang Pertamina Balikpapan (PT KPB) which is designated as a National Strategic Project (PSN). The Balikpapan & Lawe-Lawe RDMP project will increase the production capacity of the Balikpapan Refinery from 260 thousand barrels per day (kbph) to 360 thousand barrels per day (kbph) and improve product quality from EURO II standard to EURO V standard. Fuel Oil (BBM) Products ) EURO V standard has the main advantage of being more environmentally friendly and of higher quality with a more economical consumption level.

In this project, there is also the development of a number of supporting facilities at the Lawe-Lawe Terminal, namely the construction of two crude oil storage tanks with a capacity of 1,000,000 barrels each, the construction of a facility for receiving crude oil supplies from tankers called Single Point Mooring (SPM) 320,000 DWT, as well as the construction of onshore and offshore pipeline facilities from SPM to the Lawe-Lawe Terminal and from the Lawe-Lawe Terminal to the Balikpapan Refinery.
