Balikpapan, September 23, 2026 — The presence of a wife in the midst of her husband’s work activities served as a powerful reminder of the importance of workplace safety within the Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) project managed by PT Kilang Pertamina Balikpapan (KPB).
Through the Family Visit Program, Nuryah, the wife of PT BIMA worker Agus Setyawan, visited Area 37-ISBL during a Toolbox Meeting (TBM) on Friday (September 18) to deliver a safety message to her husband and his fellow workers.
The presence of a family member, particularly a wife, brought a different and more personal approach to strengthening workplace safety awareness.
The warmth and care of a wife served as a reminder of the potential hazards that workers face in their daily activities, while also bringing them back to the fundamental reason behind every safe action: the families waiting for them at home.
Nuryah expressed her gratitude and emotion for the opportunity. She shared a habit that she has consistently encouraged her husband to practice before leaving for work.
“I always remind him to pray before starting work, because safety begins there. I tell him that there is a wife and children at home waiting and hoping that Dad comes home safely,” said Nuryah, who attended the event representing the wives of project workers.
The mother of two also delivered a message to all workers at the project site to always prioritize safety in every work activity, while reminding them to consistently apply KARIB (Kajian Risiko Pribadi / Personal Risk Assessment).
“To all the gentlemen, please be careful at work. Pray before starting your work, because there are still wives and children waiting for you to come home safely and healthy, with nothing happening to you,” she said.
Speaking after the event, Nuryah said the moment had become an unforgettable experience for her.
“I’m happy, touched, and also proud. I had never been here before, so I would like to thank PT KPB for giving appreciation to my husband,” she said.
She explained that the significant risks associated with working in a refinery environment were one of the reasons why praying before work had become a routine she and her husband never skipped.
VP of Legal & Relations of PT Kilang Pertamina Balikpapan, Asep Sulaeman, said the Family Visit Program is one of 12 safety culture initiatives implemented by KPB to strengthen safe behaviors among workers, particularly amid the RDMP Balikpapan project activities, which have passed the construction phase and are progressing toward the next stage ahead of the targeted start-up.
“Through this human-centered approach, the company hopes that every worker will always remember that their personal safety is not only for themselves, but also for the loved ones waiting for them at home,” Asep said.
The program will continue to be carried out in other work areas as part of KPB’s ongoing commitment to building and strengthening a strong workplace safety culture.
