PT Kilang Pertamina Balikpapan (PT KPB) took part in the Tanjung Jumlai Beach Clean-Up Action held in Saloloang Village, North Penajam Paser Regency (PPU) on Sunday (23/2). This event was part of the 2025 National Waste Awareness Day (HPSN) commemoration, which carried the theme “Collaboration for a Clean Indonesia.”
The initiative was organized by the PPU Regency Government and involved various stakeholders, including the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), local government, companies, communities, environmental activists, civil society organizations, and students. Nationally, similar activities were simultaneously conducted in eight other locations across Indonesia as part of a collective effort to reduce environmental pollution caused by plastic waste.
PT KPB’s Director of Finance and Business Support, Nailul Achmar, emphasized that environmental awareness must be demonstrated through concrete actions. “Our theme is collaboration for a clean Indonesia, meaning cleanliness in its truest sense. Seeing participants wearing various costumes reflects the spirit of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity). This initiative reinforces that business actors care about the environment and put this concern into action. We are showing our commitment to protecting the beach, particularly in tackling plastic waste. This awareness must continue to grow to ensure a better environmental future,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Commander of the VI/Mulawarman Regional Military Command, Major General TNI Rudi Rachmat Nugraha, expressed that this collaboration highlights the shared responsibility of preserving the environment. “Collaboration for a clean Indonesia means that waste management is not just the responsibility of the government or the community, but of all of us. Through this action, we are not only cleaning the beach but also educating people that waste must be collected and not left behind. If we all continue to take an active role, our environment will remain sustainable,” he said.
The event also received appreciation from the Head of the Kalimantan Regional Environmental Control Center, Fitri Herawati, S.Si., who highlighted the importance of collective awareness in waste management. “We are all waste producers, and there are already regulations that mandate every waste producer to manage their waste. Through this initiative, we have taken a simple yet impactful step—waste segregation. Hopefully, this will become a habit that continues to grow,” she said.
This clean-up effort successfully collected a total of 763.6 kilograms of waste, consisting of 373.4 kg of organic waste, 49.6 kg of inorganic waste, and 340.6 kg of residual waste. The collected waste will be properly managed, with organic waste being sent to the TPS3R PPU facility, while inorganic waste will be delivered to the Benuo Taka Main Waste Bank.
As part of Asta Cita, PT KPB’s VP of Legal & Relations, Asep Sulaeman, reaffirmed the importance of synergy in environmental preservation. “As part of Asta Cita, PT KPB continues to foster collaboration to support environmental and social policies. This initiative not only cleans the beach but also builds awareness and habits for sustainable environmental care. Through the spirit of collaboration, we can create a broader positive impact for both society and the environment around us,” he concluded.
