Strengthening Synergy to Support Asta Cita, KPB Initiates a Gathering Between Pertamina Kalimantan Territory and Kodam VI Mulawarman

Tuesday, 11 February 2025

To strengthen institutional relations and enhance synergy, PT Kilang Pertamina Balikpapan (KPB), as the manager of the National Strategic Project (PSN) Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) Balikpapan and Lawe-Lawe, initiated a meeting titled Silaturahmi Courtesy One Pertamina Kalimantan Area with the Regional Military Command (Kodam) VI Mulawarman on Tuesday (11/2).

The gathering was attended by the Board of Directors & Management of PT Kilang Pertamina Balikpapan, PT KPI Unit Balikpapan, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga (PPN), PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI), and representatives from SKK Migas. Also present at the meeting was the Commander of Kodam VI Mulawarman, Major General TNI Rudy Rachmat Nugraha, along with key officials.

Aligned with Asta Cita, launched by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, which emphasizes economic development as well as national defense and security, the RDMP Balikpapan and Lawe-Lawe project plays a crucial role in strengthening national energy resilience and independence.

"We recognize that Pertamina holds a highly strategic role for this country, especially in managing national energy assets. A significant portion of Indonesia’s oil needs comes from Balikpapan, making it Kodam VI Mulawarman’s responsibility to secure Pertamina so it can continue to operate optimally," stated Major General Rudy.

The two-star general also highlighted the importance of synergy between Pertamina and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), particularly in securing national strategic projects. "We will support Pertamina one hundred, even one thousand percent, in whatever is needed," he added.

During the same occasion, President Director of PT Kilang Pertamina Balikpapan, Bambang Harimurti, expressed his appreciation for the role of the TNI in maintaining the security of the RDMP Balikpapan project, which has now reached 92% completion. "We have received tremendous support from the TNI and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) in securing the RDMP project, which is a National Strategic Project (PSN). With such a large workforce, it would be impossible to handle security internally alone. The assistance and support from the TNI and Polri have been invaluable to us," Bambang explained.

He added that the continuation of the RDMP project is expected to increase national fuel production, thereby reducing dependence on imported gasoline-type fuels such as gasoline, Pertalite, and Pertamax.

The presence of the RDMP Balikpapan and Lawe-Lawe project also contributes to the development of the people's economy through its multiplier effect, which is directly felt by the surrounding communities. This project has three main objectives: increasing processing capacity from 260,000 barrels per day to 360,000 barrels per day, improving product quality from the Euro II standard to the more environmentally friendly Euro V equivalent, and enhancing refinery complexity from a 3.7 Nelson Complexity Index (NCI) to 8.0 NCI to improve operational efficiency and expand product range.

Through this initiative, it is hoped that a stronger collaboration between Pertamina Kalimantan Territory and Kodam VI Mulawarman can be established across various aspects, including strategic project security and contributions to national energy resilience.
