PT Kilang Pertamina Balikpapan (PT KPB) once again held its flagship program, Women Positive Safety Intervention (WPSI), with a special touch of Ramadan. The program, which took place on 13 and 20 March 2025, is the 5th and 6th series of WPSI throughout 2025. WPSI is a safety campaign that empowers the positive energy of women workers to increase awareness, participation and commitment of all workers in mitigating accidents. of all workers in an effort to mitigate accidents and injuries in the workplace.
This program is also part of PT KPB's Agent of Change (AoC) Culture Charter Project in 2025, which invites female workers to go directly to the refinery area. Their presence brings positive energy, with a more empathetic and persuasive communication approach. “With a more humanistic approach, safety messages are more easily accepted. It's not just about safe work procedures, but also a reminder that every action in the workplace has a big impact on the family waiting at home,” said Asep Sulaeman, VP Legal & Relations of PT KPB.
As a form of appreciation, workers who are disciplined in implementing work safety, especially in the use of gloves as protection for hands and fingers, receive awards directly from the WPSI team. This appreciation is a reminder that safety is not just an obligation, but an investment for the future.
This activity involved PT KPB workers, contractor workers, and subcontractors. The WPSI team together with the AoC of PT KPB visited two main locations, namely Area 2 SWRO (Sea Water Reverse Osmosis) and Area 36 MCR (Main Control Room), to have direct dialog with the workers.
One of the participants, Farah Gina, a PT KPB worker from the PSPS Function, expressed her deep impression. “Touched, especially since this is my first time participating in WPSI activities. Meeting workers is like seeing your own parents who need support from their children,” she said.
Meanwhile, M. Rivaldo, a contractor worker in Area 36, expressed his gratitude for this program. “The blessing of Ramadan, alhamdulillah, the appreciation given by my friends, Insha Allah, is priceless. My spirit has increased,” he said.
Similarly, Agus, a subcontractor worker from PT JEL in Area 2, hopes that this activity can continue. “It needs to be held every day if possible, so that we workers can continue to be reminded and be more enthusiastic in working,” he hoped.
Support for this program also came from the Independent Commissioner of PT Pertamina (Persero), RA Sondaryani, who is familiarly called Inge. During a visit to the Balikpapan RDMP Project, she expressed her appreciation for the work safety culture initiative implemented by PT KPB, “I really appreciate the excellent program from HSSE KPB, namely WPSI. Hopefully this good program will continue to be supported, continued, and refined to be even cooler,” he said.
Asep further added that WPSI is one of the company's efforts in building a more inclusive and effective work safety culture by utilizing the positive energy brought by women. “With a humanist approach, this program not only increases awareness of the importance of safety, but also builds solidarity among workers,” he concluded.
In line with the spirit of Ramadan, PT KPB continues to strengthen its safety commitment by recording more than 114 million safe working hours without Lost Time Injury (LTI). The WPSI program, which has entered its 6th series this year, is part of a sustainable K3 culture strategy, which aims to instill a safety culture in all work areas, increase workers' awareness of safety procedures, support safe and sustainable operations.
As of March 2025, the WPSI program has involved more than 120 participants in various refinery areas, providing appreciation as well as strengthening safety awareness for workers. In this blessed month, the spirit of sharing and concern for safety is even more pronounced, in line with the values of togetherness upheld during Ramadan.
