PT KPB Holds Certified OHS Training, 70 Balikpapan-PPU Residents Get the Opportunity

Balikpapan, August 19, 2026 — PT Kilang Pertamina Balikpapan (KPB) held a Certified General Occupational Health and Safety (OHS / K3) Training for 70 residents of Balikpapan City and Penajam Paser Utara (PPU) Regency.

The activity, which took place from August 18-22, 2026, at the Alkon Kalimantan Polytechnic in Balikpapan, is part of a series of events commemorating the 7th Anniversary of PT KPB, as well as a manifestation of the company's commitment to providing added value to the community around its operational areas by improving residents' competencies and capacities.

VP of Legal & Relations at PT Kilang Pertamina Balikpapan, Asep Sulaeman, stated that the training was specifically directed at developing the competencies of OHS Experts and OHS Officers, which is expected to strengthen the participants' professionalism while also opening up career opportunities in the OHS field.

"PT KPB ensures that participants receive structured, competent OHS learning and equipping that complies with the required standards," he said on Tuesday (August 18, 2026).

He added that the overseeing certification body has been accredited by the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) and the National Professional Certification Board (BNSP), meaning the certificates obtained by the participants have official recognition and are valid nationally.

Asep hopes that participants can acquire knowledge, competence, and OHS certification that will be useful both in the professional world and in supporting the formation of a safety culture within the community.

For information, PT Kilang Pertamina Balikpapan (KPB) has consistently increased the resource capacity of the community around its operational area through a series of certified vocational trainings.

This effort is designed to create a connection between the training sector and industrial needs, while also opening up wider employment access for the residents of Balikpapan and Penajam Paser Utara (PPU).

This step in building local resource capacity began in 2023 through Welder Training, selecting the 16 best participants from six urban villages (kelurahan) to undergo intensive training for 40 days.

This commitment continued in 2024 and 2025 through the implementation of BNSP-certified Gada Pratama Security Education and Training. In collaboration with the Directorate of Community Development (Ditbinmas) of the East Kalimantan Regional Police (Polda Kaltim), KPB embraced a total of 110 local residents from Balikpapan and PPU.

Through these community resource and competency improvement programs, PT KPB is not only focusing on building future energy infrastructure but also on producing local human resources who are competent, independent, and highly competitive in its operational area.
