PT Kilang Pertamina Balikpapan (KPB) welcomed a visit from the Commander of Military Command (Pangdam) VI/Mulawarman, Major General Rudy Rachmat Nugraha, to strengthen territorial security cooperation in the Balikpapan Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) National Strategic Project (PSN) area. This is in line with the mandate of Law Number 3 of 2025, which regulates the role of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) in maintaining the security of strategic areas and objects.
The activity, which took place at the New Site Office (NSO) of PT KPB, was followed by a direct inspection of several project areas on Tuesday (2/12) to see the progress of initial operations and the readiness of the supporting facilities for the integrated energy infrastructure of the Balikpapan Refinery.
The Commander of Military Area Command VI/Mulawarman expressed his appreciation for the project's development and the quality of the infrastructure being built. “I am very impressed, and the facilities here are extraordinary. I was also informed that in the near future, the Pertamina Balikpapan oil refinery will become one of the largest oil refineries in Southeast Asia. This will undoubtedly be a source of pride for the Indonesian nation,” he said.
The stability of security in the Balikpapan area is an important element in ensuring that national energy supply runs without disruption. The discussion session also addressed the security measures that have been implemented to protect vital national objects.
Rudy emphasized the commitment of Kodam VI/Mulawarman to continue supporting the security of this strategic area. “This will also be a concern for Kodam VI/Mulawarman in terms of security to ensure that the Balikpapan oil refinery can operate safely and sustainably to further advance the Indonesian economy,” he added.
The series of activities concluded with a tour of a number of key project facilities, which provided a direct overview of the scale of the refinery's operations and its contribution to strengthening national energy security.
Vice President (VP) of Legal & Relations at PT KPB, Asep Sulaeman, appreciated the Pangdam's support for the security of the project and refinery operations. “With this synergy and collaboration, we continue to strive to improve safety for all workers and ensure that refinery operations run effectively and reliably,” he said.
Asep added that territorial security is an integral part of the smooth development of the Balikpapan RDMP Project. “The stability of the area around the refinery is crucial, especially amid the intensity of the RDMP project completion. We are confident that this strong synergy will continue to strengthen the security foundation that has been running well so far,” he concluded.
