Since early morning, hundreds of elementary school students in Balikpapan City have been eagerly awaiting a special moment. Smiles broke out when Pertamina volunteers entered the classroom, bringing the spirit of energy for the country through the Pertamina Energi Negeri (PEN) 8.0 Program. For the students, this was a day full of color, laughter, stories, and inspiration.
One of the most memorable moments came from a student at SDN 005 Balikpapan Utara, Dellian Sadam Tegar. When the PEN volunteers invited the students to read poems about energy, Dellian bravely stepped forward. He recited each verse loudly, impressing his friends and the PEN volunteers.
For Dellian, the activity with the Pertamina volunteers was not only an opportunity to gain knowledge, but also a chance to train himself. "I became brave enough to speak in front of my friends. I want to be like the amazing Pertamina volunteers here," he said.
Not only that, Dellian also shared his habits at home. “During the day, I turn off the lights so we don't waste electricity,” he said. His courage to raise his hand and speak in front of the class shows his confidence.
The PEN 8.0 program itself was held simultaneously in 80 elementary schools in 28 cities in Indonesia. In Balikpapan, the activities took place at six schools, namely SDN 005 Balikpapan Utara, SDN 005 Balikpapan Selatan, SDN 007 Balikpapan Selatan, SDN 026 Balikpapan Tengah, SDN 011 Balikpapan Kota, and SDN 021 Balikpapan Timur.
Vice President (VP) of Legal and Relations at PT KPB, Asep Sulaeman, emphasized that PEN 8.0 is an important moment for officers to be directly present in the community. “We want children to understand the importance of energy in everyday life. In a simple and fun way, we hope they will grow up to be an energy-conscious generation that cares about the environment and is ready to face future challenges,” explained Asep.
This year, PEN 8.0 involved 950 Pertamina Group volunteers, including 29 volunteers from PT Kilang Pertamina Balikpapan (KPB). Nationally, this activity was attended by 19,152 elementary school students. The volunteers not only provided materials but also engaged the students in games, discussions, and educational activities to make learning more accessible.
PEN 8.0 Balikpapan Region Coordinator, Andi Adam, added that Pertamina's participation in this program is not only about teaching, but also about sharing inspiration. "We bring the spirit of ‘officers of the future’ to Balikpapan. We strive to instill values that can be widely applied, such as the spirit of achievement and sharing. The benefits are not only felt by the students but also by us volunteers who learn directly from the warmth of the elementary school children in Balikpapan," said Adam.
With the spirit of “Energy for the Nation, Great Children, Strong Indonesia,” PEN 8.0 left a deep impression on elementary school students in Balikpapan. The students learned about energy in a fun way, inspiring them to achieve their dreams. Pertamina believes that the future of the nation lies in the hands of a young generation that is smart, confident, and cares about the environment.
