KPB Strengthens Concrete Actions for a Cleaner Indonesia, Provides Sanitation Facilities for the Community

Thursday, 27 February 2025

PT Kilang Pertamina Balikpapan (KPB) reaffirmed its commitment to environmental protection by participating in the 2025 National Waste Awareness Day (HPSN) commemoration. In an initiative held at the Mangrove Margo Mulyo area, KPB, in collaboration with the Balikpapan City Forkopimda, the Kalimantan Environmental Control Center, the Environmental Agency, educational institutions, and environmental communities, conducted a cleanup activity and donated five waste carts to the local community on Thursday (27/02).

This initiative is part of the national Asta Aksi HPSN 2025 program, which aims to raise awareness about waste management and ecosystem protection. During the activity, 1.3 tons of waste were collected from the mangrove area, which plays a vital role in maintaining coastal ecological balance.

In addition to the cleanup effort, KPB also distributed waste carts to RT 40 and RT 41 Margo Mulyo, Proklim Margo Mulyo, the Margo Mulyo Urban Waste Bank, and SMAN 8 Balikpapan.

VP of Legal & Relations at PT KPB, Asep Sulaeman, emphasized that environmental preservation requires synergy between businesses, the government, and the community. “We are not only participating in cleanup activities but also supporting more sustainable waste management efforts by providing sanitation facilities for the community,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Fitri Herawati, Head of the Kalimantan Regional Environmental Control Center, praised KPB’s contribution to preserving the mangrove ecosystem, which plays a crucial role in filtering waste before it reaches the ocean. “Protecting mangroves is not only about planting and maintaining them but also about preventing pollution and waste disposal from upstream, ensuring they do not end up in the sea,” she explained.

The mangrove ecosystem is not only essential for the environment but also has economic value for coastal communities. In addition to serving as a habitat for fish and marine life, mangroves play a crucial role in climate change mitigation by absorbing up to four times more carbon than other tropical forests.

Aligned with the 2025 HPSN theme, Collaboration for a Cleaner Indonesia, PT KPB hopes to increase public awareness of better waste management practices. This initiative also supports Asta Cita, a key agenda of President Prabowo, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between businesses and communities in environmental and social policies.
