Despite still being in the construction phase, PT Kilang Pertamina Balikpapan (KPB) continues to demonstrate its commitment to Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) through community capacity-building programs. In collaboration with the East Kalimantan Regional Police, KPB organized the Gada Pratama Security Training Program for residents near its operational areas, including Balikpapan and Penajam Paser Utara (PPU).
Aimed at equipping participants with relevant knowledge and skills in the security field, this initiative marks one of KPB's community capacity-building programs in 2024, following the successful welding training conducted in the previous year.
After a selection process, 50 participants were chosen to take part in the training, divided into two batches conducted in November and December. All training sessions were held at the Ballroom of Guest House Nur Azizah, Balikpapan.
Asep Sulaeman, VP of Legal & Relations at PT KPB, emphasized that the training aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of job seekers, adding value to their capabilities. “This training reflects our concern for the surrounding community, particularly job seekers in Balikpapan and PPU. We hope this initiative not only enhances their knowledge but also provides participants with essential tools to compete in the job market,” said Asep.
“We hope this activity continues in the future. For the participants, make the most of this opportunity to improve yourself and prove that you possess the necessary competencies,” he added.
The event began with a report from the organizers, followed by remarks from AKBP Ruskan, S.H., M.H., representing the Director of Community Development of the East Kalimantan Regional Police. He expressed his gratitude to PT KPB for its continuous support of the Balikpapan and PPU communities, particularly those near the project site. “We hope this training will enhance the capabilities of the selected participants and that they take responsibility for their duties. Thank you, PT KPB, for your attention to the local community. May the participants carry out their roles responsibly and adhere to the regulations of the companies they will work for,” said AKBP Ruskan.
Separately, PT KPB President Director Bambang Harimurti added that the training aligns with the company’s commitment to fostering community independence. “The company strives to assist the community through TJSL programs. After conducting the KPB Teaching program in schools near the company in October and last year’s Welding Training, we continue our efforts with the Gada Pratama Training. We hope this program helps improve community welfare. Participants must showcase their competencies to leverage them as an asset in the job market,” Bambang stated.
One of the participants, Agus from Baru Tengah Subdistrict, expressed his gratitude to PT KPB for organizing the training. “I hope that after completing this training, I can find a job more easily. This program greatly helps economically disadvantaged communities. Thank you, PT KPB,” he said.
The opening ceremony concluded with the symbolic presentation of participant badges and a group photo. A special highlight was the recognition of the top 25 participants, who will receive an opportunity to take a competency test and obtain certification from the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP). This certification is expected to enhance participants' competitiveness in the job market.
Although PT KPB's operations are still under construction, the company remains committed to its social responsibilities. Through this training program, KPB seeks to create opportunities for improving living standards, particularly by fostering independence and welfare for communities surrounding the RDMP Balikpapan and Lawe-Lawe project areas.
