Gotong Royong KPB and Government Lift 14.3 Tons of Trash from Tanjung Jumlai Beach After Eid Al-Fitr

Wednesday, 9 April 2025

Entering the end of the Eid al-Fitr 1446 Hijriyah holiday period, the condition of Tanjung Jumlai Beach in Saloloang Village, Penajam Paser Utara Regency (PPU), was filled with piles of garbage carried by the current and left by visitors. If left unchecked, these piles not only disturb the aesthetics of the beach, but also have the potential to damage the coastal ecosystem and reduce the attractiveness of local tourism that is the pride of the community.

In response to this, PT Pertamina Balikpapan Refinery (KPB) together with the Government and a number of related agencies held a Beach Clean-Up Action after the Eid al-Fitr 1446 H holiday on Wednesday (9/4). A total of 150 participants were involved in the action which succeeded in lifting 14.3 tons of garbage from the Tanjung Jumlai coastline.

This mutual cooperation action also involved the Culture and Tourism Office, the Environment Office, Penajam Subdistrict, Saloloang Village, Saloloang Junior and Elementary School students, and community leaders. PT KPB supported this activity through logistical assistance and active participation from workers.

“We must protect Tanjung Jumlai Beach together, and today we prove that care can be born from collaboration. Hopefully in the future this collaboration will continue, because if not us, who else,” said the Head of the PPU Culture and Tourism Office, Andi Israwati Latif on the sidelines of the activity.

Awareness of keeping beach areas clean is becoming increasingly important as public visits increase, especially during vacation periods. Trash left behind not only spoils the view, but also has a direct impact on marine biota and the comfort of future visitors.

Separately, VP Legal & Relations of PT KPB, Asep Sulaeman revealed that this activity is a form of KPB's active participation and collaboration towards the environment. “As part of the community in the PPU coastal area, we feel it is important to play an active role in preserving the environment, especially at Tanjung Jumlai Beach, which is one of the local tourism icons. Today's cross-party collaboration reflects an extraordinary spirit of mutual cooperation, and we hope that awareness of the importance of maintaining environmental cleanliness can continue to grow in the community,” he said.

Through this activity, PT KPB continues to encourage active community involvement in environmental conservation as part of efforts to create positive and sustainable impacts around the operational area. This beach cleanup action is expected to be a joint movement to protect the face of the PPU coast as a natural and social asset that should be preserved. This is in line with President Prabowo's Asta Cita program, which emphasizes the importance of collaboration between businesses and communities in environmental and social policies.
