PT Kilang Pertamina Balikpapan (PT KPB) officially closed the series of 2025 National Occupational Safety and Health (K3) Month activities which took place in the Modification Site Office (MSO) Building yard on Friday (28/2). With the theme Realizing Excellent and HSSE-Skilled Pertamina Officers to Support the Company's Sustainable Business, PT KPB emphasizes its commitment to cultivating K3 as part of the safe and reliable completion of the Balikpapan and Lawe-Lawe Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) Projects.
This closing activity was attended by 1,475 workers as well as representatives of contractors and subcontractors who contributed to the implementation of HSSE in the work environment. The closing was marked by handing over the K3 Month flag from the committee to the President Director of PT KPB, as well as giving prizes to the winners of various competitions, such as the HSSE Banner Competition, Quiz Competition among workers, First Aid Competition, and Quiz Competition among high schools.
“The existence of workers is an important asset owned by the company. In carrying out their work, they are directly confronted with hazards and risks, so they need to be equipped with adequate knowledge and competencies related to HSSE cultural aspects,” said Nuclies Aquanto, Vice Chairman of the PT KPB National K3 Month Committee.
As part of the BK3N 2025 series, PT KPB has carried out 12 activities in Balikpapan and 13 activities in Lawe-Lawe. Some of the featured activities in Balikpapan include HSSE aspect Vendor Day, First Aid Workshop & Competition, HIV/AIDS Socialization at SMAN 8 Balikpapan, K3 Seminar, Blood Donation, and breaking the MURI record for the most simultaneous floor cleaning actions by oil and gas production facility workers. Meanwhile, in Lawe-Lawe, activities included First Aid Enrichment, Fit for US-Healthy Fit, Safety Enrichment, Security Engagement, K3 Message Competition, and beach cleanup action “Collaboration for Clean Indonesia.”
President Director of PT KPB, Bambang Harimurti on this occasion emphasized that understanding HSSE among workers has its own challenges. “Let us both care about small things related to HSSE. I also invite all workers to comply with the HSSE Golden Rules: Obey, Intervene, and Care. In addition, there are three AKHLAK cultures that will become project charters in 2025, namely Creative (Efficient and Effective Meeting Commitment), On Time (No Time for Not on Time), and WPSI (Woman Positive Safety Intervention),” she said.
On this occasion, he also reminded the importance of mechanical integrity before the commissioning and startup phase of units that are in the construction completion stage. Currently, the project progress has reached 92.57%, which is the result of contributions from all workers.
In closing this BK3N, PT KPB also held an HSSE Fair which presented various interactive tenants related to K3, health checks (blood sugar, cholesterol, and uric acid), information on environmental programs, and food and beverage booths to enliven the event.
With the end of this National OHS Month series, PT KPB continues to be committed to cultivating OHS through sustainable cultural programs towards generative HSSE and forming Pertamina Officers who have HSSE skills. “All activities are expected to spur enthusiasm and campaign for K3 in every aspect of work, so that K3 culture can be increasingly embedded in our daily lives,” added Asep Sulaeman, VP Legal & Relations of PT KPB.
As the manager of the Balikpapan RDMP and Lawe-Lawe National Strategic Projects (PSN), PT KPB continues to be committed to managing refinery development projects in accordance with world-class HSSE standards. This is in line with the initiative of the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises in supporting the President's Asta Cita to strengthen the development of Human Resources (HR). With strong HSSE implementation, it is expected to support project completion for national energy security and independence.
